Collaboration Series — Zurich Center for Market Design

Collaboration Series

From research insight to actionable market solutions

Workshops

Each workshop focuses on a concrete market design challenge and brings together the right people to move from ideas to implementable designs.

Here is what we've done with partners in the past — and what's coming up next.

Market Design & Energy Markets
In collaboration with NCCR Automation
19 May 2025 (completed)

What: Electricity market design in a renewables‑dominated setting: near‑zero marginal production costs, stochastic uncertainty in demand/supply forecasting, and proactive market structures for efficient clearing.

[Un]Expected Consequences of Rule Changes in Sports
In collaboration with CRSA Zurich
21 May 2025 (completed)

What: Fairness and unintended effects of rule changes in sports — from penalty systems to multi‑club ownership — and what market design can contribute to evaluation and governance.

Course Allocation & Scheduling
In collaboration with ASVZ Zurich
Anticipated: September / October 2025

What: Allocation challenges across sports courses and university timetables: lotteries, time windows, weighting, group sign‑ups, and instructor assignment — with options for pilot design.

Incentives and Mechanism Design on Blockchains
In collaboration with UZH Blockchain Center
Anticipated: Fall 2025

What: Token-based incentive structures, decentralized governance mechanisms, and automated batch protocols for fair resource allocation in blockchain ecosystems.
